try a banga!

A top-restored banga is available for rent as a vacation apartment above the rooftops of Berlin. The space-age-tiny-house was installed on the roof of the ‚Passivhaus Engeldamm‘ – in the middle of the city, on a 80sqm furnished roof terrace with panoramic view (and outdoor shower), walking distance to the Spree and the Museum Island, the East Side Gallery and the Berghain club. The location is unique – especially when you look out of the small sliding windows into the starry sky (or onto the Berlin TV Tower on Alexanderplatz) at night. The small space capsule offers 2 sofas / 4 beds, kitchenette, toilet, shower and sink (and in the stairwell of the building there is an additional, larger washroom for private use).

This banga – after its first use in a vacation village – was used for 20 years by farmers in the italian Appenines as a break and overnight accommodation during the grape harvest. For the last 10 years it has stood abandoned, unused, overgrown with scrub, but with the best view on the hillside at the vineyard.

The GRP shells survived the time very well, but the substructure and interior fittings were rotten and damaged. The Banga was rescued (with three siblings), transported to Germany and meticulously restored in loving, lengthy detail by the architectural office ’scarchitekten‘ and their experts and helpers. The current condition is arguably better than when it was first delivered: from the underbody frame made of stainless steel to the interior fittings and additional equipment, investments were made in quality and functionality – with a contemporary look. And in case of doubt: Originality beats color or function!
