The Customized Eames.

Sold, sorry.

The grandmaster of armchairs: An Eames lounge chair is the most comfortable thing the 20th century had to offer. Charles & Ray Eames first introduced the „Lounge Chair + Ottoman“ in 1956 as a more modern and even more comfortable variant of the well-known, but old-fashioned, deep-buttoned english clubchairs. For years, the couple had researched the possibilities and benefits of molded plywood – resulting in the (also very famous) LCW chair. The later Lounge Chair was visibly located in the high-price segment: The design was ultra-modern, the materials were ultra-luxurious.

Today there are many Eames Lounge Chairs around – after all, it’s still being produced. That doesn’t make the chair less beautiful, but it’s always something special to find more extraordinary vintage models. Here we have a very special mid-60s Lounge Chair, completely restored by a Vitra-certified restorer, newly upholstered and covered with a high class, super-soft & velvety natural leather. The colour is somewhere between ‚Hermes orange‘ and the top of a creme caramel dessert. Also a very special detail: the short leg piece over which the chair swivels is made of brass, individualised at the customer’s request during production time. this brass collar has been polished and the internal thread restored. The seating shell is made of the classic ‚Rio rosewood veneer‘, it comes with the legally required CITES-certificate (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of wild fauna and flora). There’s no ottoman – if needed, it would be possible to search for a matching one and reupholster it with the same leather accordingly.

Good to know: Although the Lounge Chair looks so compact and robust – its construction is delicate. It’s not advisable to lean on the backrest while standing behind the chair or to sit on the armrests (an inelegant habit anyway). Both backrest and armrests are connected to the plywood of the seat shell via a metal bar and 3 rubber ’shockmounts‘, there’s no other supporting connection. Under unforeseen heavy loads, these glued shockmounts could tear off. So better sit down right in the middle of luxury and enjoy the feeling of a warm hug.
