more revolt.
one of our favourite designs is probably the most famous chair by the dutch designer friso kramer: chair 4060, called „revolt“, produced by ahrend-decirkel, presented for the first time in 1954 at the milan triennale. the frame made of steel u-profiles carries a seat plate and backrest made of laminate.
the revolt was a declaration of war, a revolutionary chair – and yet not an immediate success. that only came in 1956, after a design exhibition in the stedelijk museum in amsterdam (which, by the way, mainly showed german design). in the meantime, the chair has not only made it into exhibitions and museums, but also onto a dutch postage stamp, there is a whole book just about this chair and it is one of the most famous midcentury design pieces.
