life, reflected/2.
Burkhard Schittny holds up a mirror to the world – but it’s up to you to interpret what you see. His „Tubes“ series of objects seem to be superficially decorative, but they reflect the life and ego of their viewers – in the truest sense of the word. The wall hanging objects are made of mirror and colour foils from a palette of more than 300 colours; these rolled-up foils are then arranged in an acrylic box with a mirrored rear wall. They combine ideas of geometric abstraction, post-war modernism and op-art with a sensual and overwhelming luminous brilliance. And they perfectly balance minimalist condensation with dazzling illusionism.
Hamburg-based artist and photographer Burkhard Schittny graduated at HfK Bremen and took a Master’s degree in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. His artistic repertoire now includes photography, video, sound, performance and installation, his works have received prizes and awards and have been exhibited both nationally and internationally.
All works of the tubes series are unique. We currently have 3 new different objects on show. The acrylic boxes are 120 x 120 x 13 cm (47 x 47 x 5 inch).
