gio ponti was a true italian „renaissance men“, meaning: fluent in many arts. a painter, an architect (of international fame with the design of the ‚pirelli tower‘ in milan), a designer, founder of ‚domus‘ magazine in 1928 (still available today and a recommended read) and teacher at the Politecnico di Milano, where he had studied.
everyone loves the ponti-designed hotel ‚parco dei principi‘ in sorrento – but it’s sister hotel in rome (built two years later) also impresses with its fantastic interior detailing. this small side table was designed by gio ponti for this hotel and produced by cassina. a light blue laminated plywood top is set in a matt nickel plated tubular metal frame. everybody has a coffee table these days – up your game with something of true italian elegance.
the laminated top as well the nickel plated metal frame show an even patina.
