seltz chairs.
the french ebénisterie seltz is a small, family run wood workshop in the alsace region and was selected by famous furniture maker pierre chapo to produce some of his designs in the 1970s and 1980s. known for their work ethic based on great respect for the material and the use of elegant, simple and functional shapes.
the massive and impressive ‘architectural’ construction makes these chairs particularly interesting: a single long, curved board forms front leg and backrest in one. the two rear legs meet in the shape of the letter ‘a’ and support the front of the seat. the connections of the attached pieces are exposed – and thus in keeping with the thinking behind the ‘brut’ design. all in all, a set of solid elegance and high quality.
