french brutal/3.
We simply placed the last of 3 coffee tables by French designer François Chaty on our terrace and photographed it in the morning sun. After all, it’s summer and we think it fits perfectly on a terrace.
Like Pablo Picasso and Roger Capron, the ceramic artist Chaty has his studio in Vallauris, a small town on the French Riviera. Vallauris is not necessarily the most beautiful place in the south of France, but it is still considered a centre of excellence for ceramic art and is home to Agnes Sandahl’s studio as well as a museum of ceramics that is well worth a visit.
François Chaty is less known for his coffee tables with lava stone tops than for his convex wall mirrors in the shape of the sun.
This heavy lava stone slab lies on a black steel frame. in it are deeply engraved graphic forms, a multibeamed sun and a rhombus surrounded by ellipses. The steel frame shows an even patina throughout.
